We're looking for nice, bright, warm and outgoing humans to join our team.
There will be 2 or 3 positions (part-time and full-time), each enjoying a good deal of variety. All our team members share in all the tasks of the business, so you’ll have responsibility chiefly for sales, but also social media, branding, customer service and ample opportunity to grow and develop - you’ll get as much rope to hang yourself (or fly like a kite) as you like.
You’ll be based in our store, in Berlin Mitte, where your day might include...
- Representing our brand story and selling shoes to our diverse walk-in customers (many of whom are just passing through Berlin)
- Managing our webshop, fulfilling orders, keeping our digital customers happy
- Giving life to our social media, mailers and other communications
- Dreaming up new ways to grow our business and sell more shoes!
If it helps, you can think of the position as “Sales Manager”, but with various extra bits and pieces on top.
We’re a small company - dedicated to quality over quantity - but there’s always opportunity for the business to expand and we’re open to trying new things. Depending on your strengths and what you enjoy, we’d like you to grow with the business and take ownership of the things you do best. Maybe you’d like to run our social media, or be in charge of fulfilment, or carve out a sales role for yourself beyond our bricks & mortar shop... it's really up to you.
We’re open to hiring full-time and part-time, on a variety of bases. Though you’ll need to be willing to work some Saturdays.
Since 2012 we’ve been making ridiculously comfortable shoes and selling them all over the world, through our webshop and our Berlin store.
We started life as an art project, branding ourselves “ATHEIST” because we wanted to do something we really believe in (which isn’t much). Our admittedly peculiar blend of minimalist, Bauhaus-inspired footwear and provocative branding has earned us a global following and you’ll be as likely to sell shoes to a superfan windfarming couple who've driven especially from Norway, as to a Monocle-reading post-hipster Japanese late 30s businessman who appreciates the discretion and minimal good looks of our boots.
The founders of the brand have quite diverse backgrounds (from psychology to advertising, finance to dressmaking) and it’s fair to say we don’t follow the conventions of the fashion industry... working with us probably feels more like being at university than at a premium shoe label. We care for our customers very much and, as far as they tell us anyhow, it all feels a bit like a family. So empathy is probably the quality we care about more than anything else.
- Smarts - your background could be anything from statistics to history, fashion to dentistry
- Humour - you can laugh at yourself
- Creativity / Marketing savvy
- Topnotch conversation skills. You enjoy interacting with people and you’re a naturally gifted seller - no cheese, no pushiness
- Good German
- Superb English
- Initiative / entrepreneurial drive
You don’t have to be an atheist, but it kinda helps if you can at least empathise with godlessness. And, if you’re a believer, don’t worry, we’d love you to apply… maybe we can even spin your faith marketing-wise (we’re ever opportunists).
Most important is to find someone we click with. The rest is details.
Fair, healthy, room to grow.
