This boot is perfect for those gorgeously mixed-up, neither-nor seasons; Autumn & Spring. A little heavier than its fellow "DAS BOOTs", it has a gorgeous, autumnal hue, that is somewhere between a good cognac and a 12-year-old single potstill Irish whiskey, poured nervously from an inherited hip flask, as you sit above the Cliffs of Moher, about to propose to your lover.
DAS COGNAC is handmade from a full-grain*, generously waxed “pull up" leather, so called because, when pulled or heated, the oils and waxes cause the colour to migrate and become lighter in certain areas. This video illustrates nicely.
Wearing a pull-up leather means you may acquire little marks and scratches on the shoe, to create a beautiful and unique patina. And simply massaging or hair-drying the leather will cause the marks to fade away and the original appearance of the leather to be restored.
DAS COGNAC BOOT boasts lusciously soft calfskin lining (for unparalleled comfort) and a dense and durable, natural rubber, ICH BIN ATHEIST outsole, which will last much longer than the average shoe sole.
Worth Knowing - Every pair of Das Cognac is slightly different, with a range of textures and shades, due to the very natural and untreated nature of the leather, which we we like to think is a virtue. Nonetheless, we strive that every pair appears uniform and symmetrical within itself.
STOP PRESS - all our boots now come with free extra laces, in different colours. It's a bit of a "lucky dip" - colours depend on availability at the time you order - so we can't guarantee you will receive any particular colour - but we will send you a fetching range.
*Full grain leather is the highest quality there is, made from the topmost layer of the hide, and including all of the natural grain. Its fibres are strong and durable, but nonetheless breathable. And the surface is varied and unique, with a variety of the natural imperfections and marks that tell the story of the cow’s life. As it ages, it burnishes and beautifies, developing a gorgeous patina and unique appearance that in turn tells the story of how the shoes have lived. This leather only becomes more beautiful and more comfortable with wear.
