This sneaker is one degree lighter than black (in our arbitrary reckoning of where one shade ends and another begins). We could have called it Charcoal, or Anthracite, or Nearly Black, but we went with Asphalt (which isn't a great name, admittedly, as it risks you concluding the leather leans blue, or navy, when it really doesn't. I guess it depends what colour the roads are where you live).

Anyhow, it's definitely not black. And having shoes one shade lighter than black can be useful when it comes to outfit matching, or just not wanting your feet to suck in every last drop of available light.

DAS ASPHALT is handmade with biodegradable nubuck, tanned in Portugal, at a family-owned tannery, not far from where our shoemakers live and work.

They're finished with a Bauhaus sole; our tribute to the city of Berlin (if you can figure out the 11 references you get them for free, but - be warned - no human has ever managed to do it).

green measuring tape - Atheist Shoes

Begin by finding out the length of your foot in cm (see the graphic below on how to do that), then calculate your European size, according to this formula:

SIZE = 1.5 X (FOOT LENGTH IN CM + 1.5)

That means, if your foot length is 28.5cm, you should add 1.5, to give you 30. Then multiply 30 by 1.5, to give you a European Shoe Size of 45 (assuming you don't have a very wide foot, in which case you might want to consider going up one size to 46).
